The memorial to those murdered during the second massacre at Cawnpore during the Great Mutiny in 1857. This monument was originally placed over the well in the Bibigarh in Cawnpore into which the bodies of the massacred were thrown by the rebels. Memorial at the site of the Battle of Plassey which took place on 23rd June 1757. The Battle of Plassey took place on 23rd June 1757 between the forces of Siraj-ud-Daula, Nawab of Bengal and the British forces of Robert Clive (Clive of India), supported by those of Mir Jaffa who, after the battle, displaced Siraj as Nawab of Bengal. Clive extracted significant political and financial reward from Mir Jaffa and thereafter used his influence to establish a great political influence for the East India Company in India.
