The Battle of Plassey took place on 23rd June 1757 between the forces of Siraj-ud-Daula, Nawab of Bengal and the British forces of Robert Clive (Clive of India), supported by those of Mir Jaffa who, after the battle, displaced Siraj as Nawab of Bengal. He died at Lucknow 24th November 1857 just before the completion of the evacuation by Sir Colin Campbell follwing the second relief.
